If it makes it easier to check air pressure, riders are more likely to check/add air, which is safer and extends tire life. Nobody wants to get their hands dirty trying to get an air gauge between their chain/rotors. These allow you to quickly get a pressure and start riding.
In some scenarios, you will need a thin-walled socket for installing the nut on the back side of the valve stem or take an old socket and grind it down. Loctite on the nut also helps keep it in and snug even when the rubber shrinks/degrades over years.
